Job Opportunities

Positions at the CEEO require self-motivated individuals excited about the CEEO's mission of 'improving education through engineering'. The job descriptions below are for both Tufts students (work-study or non work-study) and full-time professional staff positions. Part-time jobs for students are available throughout the academic year and can be viewed by clicking on the Part-Time Jobs tab. Student full-time opportunities are also available during the summer months and can be accessed through the Summer Jobs tab. Full-time professional staff positions are also sporadically available and can be accessed through the Full-Time Staff Positions tab.

Part Time Jobs

1. STOMP Fellow - These outreach positions send students into local K-12 classrooms to mentor teachers and students about engineering. For more information, please go to www.stompnetwork.org

 

2. Office Assistants - These positions help in the day-to-day operations of the CEEO. 

Sample Tasks include:

  • -Updating databases
  • -Assembling binders and materials for events and workshops
  • -Organizing, filing, and other office-related tasks
  • -Proofreading and testing building/programming instructions

Office Assistants must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.  Experience with File Maker Pro, Dreamweaver, or LEGO Mindstorms are a plus.


3. Activity & Content Developers - These positions involve creating activities & content for CEEO programs and websites.

Sample Tasks include:

  • -Testing existing activities for accuracy and ease of use
  • -Developing LEGO building instructions (using a LEGO CAD building program)
  • -Creating sample programs in LEGO programming environments (ROBOLAB, NXT-G, Labview)

Experience with LEGO building, LEGO Mindstorms programming and/or Labview are a plus. 

 

4. Research Assistants - These positions help to facilitate the CEEO's research program by assisting with resource development, data collection and analysis for research projects.

Sample Tasks include:

  • -Preparing curriculum for classroom use
  • -Assisting with workshops for educators
  • -Transcribing video data
  • -Coding data (video, pictures, student writing)

Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.  Experience working on a research project and/or with LEGO Mindstorms is a plus, but not required.


5. Web Graphics Designer - These positions assist in the graphical layout of the CEEO's many websites

Sample tasks include:

  • -Identifying key elements of a webpage to entice viewers & implementing these elements;
  • -Creating an effective GUI for an online collaboration tool to potentially be used in the classroom by teachers and students alike;
  • -Applying graphical design knowledge and layout expertise that is on a professional level for CEEO's general marketing materials.

Experience with photoshop, dreamweaver, or other layout/design programs is mandatory.

 

Summer Jobs

1. Camp Counselors - These positions are only available in the summer.

Sample Tasks include:

  • -Preparing, testing, and documenting LEGO activities for camp
  • -Providing instruction to campers and supervising their progress
  • -Set-up, clean-up and organization of LEGO materials for camp
  • -Implementing and supervising non-LEGO activities (tag, soccer, other inside games)  

Camp Counselors must be incredibly motivated, responsible and outgoing individuals.  Camp Counselors are typically engaged in 4-5 weeks of LEGO work and then selected to work on other CEEO projects for the duration of the summer. Experience with LEGO building and LEGO Mindstorms programming strongly preferred.  Previous experience working in a camp setting is a plus.

 6. Software Developer

This position is for a programmer for the SAM Animation project (www.samanimation.com). SAM is free stop-action movie software for teachers and students. Developed exclusively at Tufts, the project has of potential directions for development work. This position would work directly with a full-time staff member of the CEEO on developing the SAM software.
Required skills for the position include:

  • -C/Objective-C programing skills
  • -Comfort with Quicktime SDK/manipulating sound media
  • -Knowledge of OpenGL
  • -Xcode/Microsoft Visual Studio

Applicants should be self-directed, motivated individuals who enjoy working at a fast pace and exciting, developing technologies. Depending on skill level, pay may be greater than $10/hr.
