Kids' Workshops
These programs are designed to give students the chance to participate in individual and small-team design projects while fostering an understanding of the design process and related principles. Students will use LEGO bricks and accompanying icon-based software as they design, build, and program their robotic creations. Although the program is educational, we want the children to enjoy themselves and have fun. Instructors are a collection of CEEO staff with engineering, education, and child development backgrounds, and Tufts engineering students.

This is just a sample of the programs that we offer at the CEEO. Be sure to check out the list of Current Programs to see what programs are currently enrolling.

 Summer Programs

LEGO Robotics for Early Elementary Students
This workshop is designed for students that will be entering 1st and 2nd grades in the fall. The students will be building with LEGO bricks to design and program robots. Students will be introduced to concepts such as the engineering design process, stability, and gears.

Co-ed LEGO Engineering

This one-week program is focused on the engineering design process provides students with a series of design challenges using the robotic LEGO bricks. Activities build studentÕ skills with the LEGO bricks from stability and design to programming and troubleshooting. Students will also learn to use the accompanying icon-based software to program their robotic creations. Some past activities include LEGO Baseball, Robo-waiters, and weightlifters. Each week ends with an open house where students can exhibit their creations from a group challenge, such as a LEGO town or amusement park. An advanced week is also offered for students who have previously attended a LEGO program.

HALLOWEEN LEGO ROBOTICS
October 31, 2009

Join members of the CEEO as we build  "smart" haunted houses. Each student (or pair of students) will design and build a haunted house that uses motors and sensors. Both the NXT and RCX will be available for students to use. The complexity of design and programming will be based on each student's skill level so students from beginner to advanced will be able to participate.

9:00-12:00: Grades 4-6

1:00-4:00: Grades 1-3

After-School Programs
The CEEO can be hired to support a limited number of after-school programs in local schools. Each program is organized to give students the opportunity to learn about the engineering design process through a series of fun activities. The activities progress from stability building exercises using LEGO bricks to challenges using the robotic LEGO pieces. Each program ends with an open-ended design challenge.

Home-School Programs
These programs are designed to teach home-school students about the engineering design process and related principles. Over 6 sessions, students are given challenges to build their understanding of the design process and improve their skills with the robotic LEGO pieces and accompanying icon-based software.
