Purpose:
To gather educators from around the world with experience
teaching with LEGO toolsets to explore exciting ways
to use the capabilities of LEGO Mindstorms NXT-G, and
LEGO Education WeDo and elab to teach science, technology,
engineering, and math (STEM). Participants will:
1. Gain further insights for developing new and improved
learning activities to teach STEM concepts associated with
climate change.
2. Present, review, discuss, and inspire relevant STEM
education research pertaining to the focus for the symposium.
3. Interact with fellow enthusiasts from around the world
about teaching STEM through a LEGO Engineering approach.
4. Contribute to a shared resource of activity examples and
ideas that each participant can further develop and test
to meet their specific needs.
Themes for 2010:
This year’s symposium will have two themes, Climate Change, a
content theme, and Tipping Points, a pedagogical theme. The
presentations and development labs will focus on how educators
can use the LEGO toolsets to engage students in STEM learning
through these two themes. Participants will work at developing
activities and teaching strategies that address:
• How can we develop activities that engage students in climate
change and the associated STEM learning?
• How can educators facilitate tipping points, those moments
where a student finally organizes what they are learning into that
“aha” moment when they really get it?Registration:
The registration fee for the symposium is $250 and
includes breakfast and lunch each day and one dinner.
Registration will open February 1, 2010.
