Biography

As the Associate Dean of Student Diversity, Inclusion, and Success, Ellise LaMotte leads the Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion (DSDI). DSDI serves as a resource for all undergraduate and graduate students across the School of Arts and Sciences, SMFA at Tufts, and the School of Engineering. The division offers opportunities for students to think about social identities and the ways they impact our lives and the world. LaMotte represents the needs of A&S, SMFA, and SOE undergraduate students on the university-wide Cabinet on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and supports the university’s seven Identity Centers: Africana, Asian American, FIRST, Indigenous, LGBT, Latinx, and Women’s.

She holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology and master's degree in business administration, both from Northeastern University and a doctor of philosophy from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, focusing on experiences of African American women in engineering as they persist to degree completion.
