Biography
Dr. Ellise LaMotte, the Associate Dean of Diversity, Inclusion and Success, leads the Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion for the Schools of Arts & Sciences and Engineering. The Division includes eight centers: Africana Center, Asian American Center, Center for STEM Diversity, FIRST Resource Center, Indigenous Center, Latinx Center, LGBT Center, and the Women’s Center. Both individually and collectively, the Centers seek to promote understanding, community, and belonging across the Tufts communities in concert with the wider division. Dr. LaMotte also works on issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity across a student’s Tufts experience, from matriculation to graduation. She works collaboratively to operationalize the Tufts anti-racism goals as well as the School of Arts and Sciences and School of Engineering’s diversity and inclusion strategic plan goals. Prior to this role, Dr. LaMotte was the Tufts Center for STEM Diversity Director for three and a half years.
Prior to Tufts, Dr. LaMotte was Olin College’s Director of Academic Affairs supporting the Provost and serving as an active member of the Diversity and Inclusion committee. Dr. LaMotte received her BS in Electrical Engineering Technology and MBA from Northeastern University. She received her PhD in Education from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, focusing her research on the experiences of African American women in engineering as they persist to degree completion.
